At our Men's Meeting on March 16 we received advice from the HLCF Society which had met on Sunday, March 12. Here is what we heard:
1. Letters were received from two lawyers, Kenneth Smith (100 Mile House) and Blake Bromley (Vancouver). Both lawyers advised us of new legislation recently passed by the Government of British Columbia in regard to new requirements for organizations registered under the BC Societies Act. The new legislation states that constitutions of BC societies must be revised to meet new requirements and that, if a society is BC is not compliant with this legal requirement by November 2017, then that society will be dissolved and its assets lost. Both lawyers offered to help us through this process. At the HLCF Society meeting on March 12 it seemed best to use Mr. Bromley's services because our original constitution was written by him and our Society incorporated by him. The HLCF Society agreed to contact Mr. Bromley for further information regarding what will be involved for us in this process.
2. The HLCF Society also noted that at their previous meeting they had advised the Men's Meeting that we lack a written statement of how our spending authority works. In other words we need a clearly described written policy to define our procedures for approval of money expenditures - who approves money expenditures and what is the process to get approval. At our Men's Meeting we agreed that this is a high priority item and that we must comply with this request as soon as possible.
